In Amateur Radio there are various certificates on offer, some that can be sought, and others awarded by peers for contribution to the hobby.
Jack Gutcher Award
This award is presented in memory of Jack Gutcher VK3APU. Jack was a foundation member of the Mountain and District Group. They were a small group of Amateurs who helped to operate the local civil emergency group for Mt. Dandenong and districts. Jack helped form a radio club for the Eastern suburbs, known today as the EMDRC. He was foundation Treasurer for many years, later holding many other active positions. He became a Silent Key in 1978 at the age of 60.
In its first year, the Award was to be presented as a Junior Award to the most regular attender and proficient operator on Club Nets. Conditions may be changed each year at the discretion of the committee.
EMDRC Life Membership
Members that have provided outstanding service to the club and to amateur radio in general, may at the discretion of the committee, be elected to life membership of the club. Peter was awarded life membership in 2020 for services to the club and amateur radio in general.
WIA Certificate of Appreciation
This was awarded by the WIA after the Australian Maritime College (AMC) took over from the WIA as the AOCP assessment body. Peter was an assessor for many years and is responsible for many new amateurs getting on air.
EMDRC Southern Cross Award
One of my very earliest achievements as a member of the EMDRC.
John Moyle Memorial Field Day Certificate
The aim is to encourage and provide familiarization with portable and field operation, and provide training for emergency situations. The rules are therefore specifically designed and focused to encourage field operations.
VK3ER Sunday Morning Club Net
Peter took over the Sunday morning club net after Carl VK3EMF was no longer able to run it. From 2017 through to 2019, Peter ran the net every Sunday morning after the WIA news at 10 am.
