The amateurs code defines the code of conduct for amateurs as they interact with each other on-air.
The Radio Amateur is (The Amateurs Code):
CONSIDERATE… never knowingly operates in such a way as to lessen the pleasure of others.
LOYAL… offers loyalty, encouragement and support to other amateurs, local clubs, and the national organization, through which Amateur Radio is represented nationally and internationally.
PROGRESSIVE… with knowledge abreast of science, a well-built and efficient station, and operation above reproach.
FRIENDLY… slow and patient operating when requested; friendly advice and counsel to the beginner; kindly assistance, cooperation and consideration for the interests of others. These are the hallmarks of the amateur spirit.
BALANCED… radio is an avocation, never interfering with duties owed to family, job, school or community.
PATRIOTIC… station and skills always ready for service to country and community.
The Radio Amateur is (VK3PH addition to the Amateurs Code):
HONEST... Honesty is not just about telling the truth, but also about being sincere, authentic, and trustworthy.
RESPECTFUL... Being respectful means to treat others with dignity, courtesy, and kindness, regardless of their status, beliefs, or opinions.
COMPASSIONATE... Compassion is not just about pitying or feeling sorry for someone, but also about understanding their perspective and respecting their dignity.
The Amateurs Code means to treat everyone equally whether they are new to the hobby or have been around for a long time. We have a wide range of amateurs in Australia starting as young as 10 up to over 90 years young. Our amateur skills base contains a broad range of experience. Take the time to get to know one another and learn from them.
Gain the most from amateur radio because it is designed for:
- for self-training in radio
- communications between Amateurs
- technical investigations into radio
Ask questions, be curious, experiment, most of all interact with everybody. Get on air. Practice your operating skills, and learn from others. That is the true nature of Amateur Radio!
